“I believe that we can win! I believe that we can win!” These are the cheering sounds of the brilliant Panther crowd during Peninsula’s game against Culver City. The Panthers took a hard hit from the Centaurs losing 41-27.

Star running back Rory Hubbard rushed the longest rushing play of the year for 64 yards, igniting a series of cheers and songs from the supporting crowd: “Run Rory run! Go Rory Go!”

The play began with a snap to quarterback Ian Escutia, who tossed the ball to Rory Hubbard, who then exploded down the left side of the field. Hubbard dodged two incoming Centaurs, juked left to allude the free safety and finally gets tackled by a backfield safety. Hubbard finished the game with a total of 205 yards, setting a personal record. The panthers’ other offensive weapon is wide receiver Jason Burr, who completed a  52 yard play.  Escutia nailed Jason Burr 30 yards past the line of scrimmage, and after intercepting the pass, Burr tussled down the markers to gain another 22 yards. Burr finished the game with 9 receptions for 145 yards, making him the South Bay wide receiver of the week. Defensive captain Carlos Merola had a great game showing life in the Peninsula defense with three great tackles.

“I saw more life in the game than I have ever seen before,” Merola said. “We just want to go out there and play our best.”
