Senior grows her passion for singing
When senior Hanna Hilden was younger she never expected to be performing in plays and singing in front of audiences. She first started writing songs just a few years ago.
“I discovered that I wanted to continue with music about three years ago when I started writing and recording my own music,” said Hilden.
Hilden enjoys music that is besides the norm and describes her music as contemporary. Also, today’s music scene is becoming more female fronted.
“My biggest inspirations are two women,” Hilden said. “One is my old voice teacher Kathy Pate and my current voice teacher Jenny Graham. They are incredible people and both are extremely successful in the music world.I have always lived for music. Music in itself is an inspiration to me.”
Hilden hopes to continue to act and sing in the future. She has been in plays and musicals such as “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” and “Anything Goes” at the Norris Theater.
On the popular music player site, nearly 50% of artists are completely independent. Recently, independent artists such as Macklemore have been paving ways in the music industry.
“I haven’t been signed to a label yet. I haven’t found a contract that would give me the freedom that I want and need as an artist,” Hilden said.
With college around the corner, Hilden is beginning to think of what she wants to do after high school.
“I am applying to colleges for music business, recording technology and finding a career in the music industry whether it be singing, or behind the scenes,” Hilden said.
