Why so serious?
Senior Ryan Sawelson met his girlfriend senior Demi Butler in their freshman year. They began to date in Oct. of their sophomore year, and have since been together for two years and four months.
“I love being with Demi. I think it’s just a great relationship. There’s not really any cons; it’s all pros,” Sawelson said. “I’ve had so much fun with her. There are so many inside jokes and sad days that turn into good days just from seeing each other. I can’t think of one bad thing that’s due to us being in a relationship.”
Sawelson said that being with Butler has taught him how to see things from another person’s point of view.
“You always have to think about the other person’s side; what they’re seeing, where they’re coming from, what they were brought up with, and how they see things differently,” Sawelson said.
Juniors Alex Qureshi and Michelle Parreno met through a mutual friend and have been together for nearly two years. Qureshi calls his relationship with Parreno fun, but he’s also learned a lot from being with her.
Qureshi and Parreno said that they have learned how to handle the hurdles of their relationship, which, according to Parreno, has helped them learn how “to be more mature” about other parts of their lives.
Still, to many, young, serious couples may seem just that: too young and too serious; Qureshi and Parreno disagree with the notion. Parreno believes that if one is going to be in a relationship, it must be taken seriously.
