As the much-talked about rivalry game against Palos Verdes High School loomed closer and closer, ASB kicked off the week with festivities such as class competitions and pep rallies. Along with the help from Link Crew and Pals Plus, ASB planned a series of events on campus such as a costume contest and a Zoo Day.

“I love Spirit Week because of all the fun lunchtime activities,” junior Tokio Shimamura said. “It also gets you pumped up for the game on Friday.”

Spirit Week allowed fellow Panthers to bond through the events. At the final football game of the year against rival, Palos Verdes, students used this opportunity to show off their school pride. For the first time, the school rushed the bleachers at the start of the game.

“Every year, I look forward to the football game because it is such a big deal at our school and I love how we get really into it,” junior Mei Matsuo said.

This year, Peninsula adds a new twist with the search of Mr. and Mrs. Panther. On Thursday in the amphitheater, seniors went head to head in the battle for the honor of being called Mr. and Mrs. Panther. After a series of competitions like carrying one’s partner across the amphitheater and spreading jelly on bread through one’s partner’s arms, Connor Ryan and Emilie Vieweg took home the title.

“I love [Spirit Week] because it is a time where Panthers can show their true school spirit, which makes our Panther Pride strong,” sophomore Stephanie Yong said.

As for the football game, Peninsula lost to Palos Verdes with a score of 41-7. Senior James Nelson Jr. scored the only touchdown of the game, jumping over a Palos Verdes player to get to the end zone.
